Strengthening Support Through Therapeutic Practice

At One Step Care, we are always looking for ways to strengthen the support we provide to our young people and the teams who care for them every day. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to welcome a dedicated psychologist who will work alongside our staff to help embed therapeutic practices across our services. By integrating therapeutic thinking into day-to-day care, our teams can better understand the experiences, emotions and behaviours of the young people they support, helping to create environments where they feel safe, understood and able to thrive.

Working collaboratively with our Residential Support Workers and wider team, the psychologist will support the development of trauma-informed and reflective practices that empower staff and improve outcomes for young people. Through guidance, shared learning and practical strategies, this partnership will help strengthen our approach to care and ensure we continue providing nurturing environments where young people can build positive relationships and work towards brighter futures.

About Dr. Robinson

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Marie Robinson , Consultant Psychologist and Director of Your Mindspace, to One Step Care.

Dr. Robinson brings over a decade of experience working with children and young people, with a specialist focus on complex trauma, developmental needs, and therapeutic care within residential settings . Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children, ensuring that every young person is supported with understanding, compassion, and evidence-based practice.

As a Chartered Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Dr. Robinson combines clinical expertise with a practical, collaborative approach—working closely with teams to embed meaningful, lasting change.

Making a meaningful difference

For the children and young people in our care, this partnership introduces greater access to tailored psychological support where it is needed most .

Dr. Robinson will support assessment and intervention processes, helping to identify the most effective therapeutic approaches for each individual. With a strong emphasis on attachment, emotional regulation, and skill-building , this work supports young people to feel safer, develop resilience, and begin to process their experiences in a healthy way.

By integrating psychological insight directly into care planning, we can ensure that support is not only consistent—but truly personalised to each young person’s journey.

No two days are ever the same at OSC, but our dedicated team is always there to offer the guidance, stability and encouragement our young people need to thrive.

We’re proud to introduce the incredible individuals who make this possible.

Introducing Alan & H | Support Workers

at Stan House

Alan loves being part of the supportive and passionate team at One Step Care, where everyone shares the same goal of guiding and nurturing young people who may have had a difficult start in life.

He enjoys being able to use his skills to support young people while continuing to grow and develop in his role. Outside of work, Alan has a creative side — he enjoys performing with his band ��and is also a founding member of the Cumbrian Magic Circle��.

H finds working at One Step Care a very positive experience, highlighting the caring and supportive team who create a truly child-centred environment. The most rewarding part of the role for H is spending time with young people, supporting them in all areas of their lives, helping them work towards their goals, and building trusting relationships along the way. Outside of work, H enjoys countryside walks with their dog ��, listening to music, dancing, socialising with friends, and trying new foods.

Introducing Jean, Sam & Emma, Support Workers at Stan House

Jean has been part of the OSC team for a year and values the strong focus on young people’s wellbeing and development. “I feel respected and valued as a member of the team,” Jean shares, highlighting the supportive culture that makes the role so rewarding. When not at work, Jean enjoys mindfulness ��, long walks with two French bulldogs ��, and watching Christmas films �� all year round — especially The Holiday.

For Sam, working at OSC means no two days are the same. “Every day is different and presents new opportunities and challenges,” he says — and that’s exactly what he loves about being part of a team dedicated to supporting young people to grow and thrive. Outside of work, Sam enjoys hiking mountains ��️, making music �� and camping under the stars ⛺ — usually with classical music �� playing in the background.

Emma describes working at Stan House as being part of a

second family ❤️.

She loves supporting the boys and helping them feel safe, secure, and happy in their home ��.

Emma also enjoys how every young person brings something different to the house, making each day rewarding and unique ✨.

Outside of work, Emma enjoys the quieter moments in life. She loves birdwatching in her garden �� and relaxing by the fire wrapped up in a cosy blanket ��. When it’s time to unwind, you’ll likely find her listening to music and singing along ��.

Introducing Mickaela & Rachel - Support Workers at Park View

Mickaela describes One Step Care as a welcoming place that feels like home and is full of fun. She finds the most rewarding part of her role is seeing the progress young people make, whether it’s a big milestone or a small step forward ��.

Outside of work, Mickaela enjoys spending time in nature, often heading out on woodland walks with her two dogs ��.

Rachel loves working at One Step Care because of the supportive and friendly team, who she says she can always rely on. She is passionate about building strong, trusting relationships with the children she works with and values the opportunity to positively contribute to their lives ��. In her free time, Rachel enjoys socialising with friends and going to the gym ��️‍♀️.

Introducing Steph & Kira - Support Workers at Park View

Stephanie Gormanley finds working at One Step Care both fun and engaging , with plenty of opportunities to support young people while continuing to develop her skills. Since joining, she has enjoyed building her knowledge and putting it into practice within the new home, with trips to Blackpool �� being a particular highlight.

Outside of work, Stephanie loves spending time with her family and attending shows and concerts together . Music is something they all enjoy and it gives them the chance to connect with others who share similar interests. ��

While she says she doesn’t really have a guilty pleasure, she admits watching EastEnders �� might count!

Kira Johnson describes working at One Step Care as being part of a second family . With a supportive management team and approachable colleagues, she feels the positive staff culture makes every day enjoyable. Kira especially loves the variety in her role , from supporting young people in different activities to helping create a welcoming and positive environment within the home. Seeing the opportunities available to young people grow is something she finds incredibly rewarding. ��

Outside of work, Kira enjoys spending time with her family and getting outdoors for walks to the beach with her French Bulldog, Woody �� . Her guilty pleasure? A full day relaxing on the sofa in pyjamas — the perfect way to recharge! ��️✨

Introducing Barbara & Vanessa - Support Workers at Park View

Barbara brings positivity �� and consistency to OSC, embracing the variety each day brings ��. She’s passionate about supporting children in their daily lives �� and takes pride in helping them grow �� and navigate new challenges ��. Outside of work, Barbara enjoys spending time with her family ��‍��‍��, walking her dogs ��, and unwinding with a well-earned treat ��.

Vanessa brings warmth ❤️, resilience ��, and a strong sense of purpose to her role at OSC. She thrives in a supportive team environment ��, always aiming to make a meaningful difference in young people’s lives ��—no matter how small the moment. Outside of work, she enjoys quality time with her family ��‍��‍��, a little retail therapy ��️, and of course, cosy downtime with naps and relaxation ��✨.

Leadership Spotlight at Stan House

To begin our Meet the Team at OSC series, we’re introducing two key members of the leadership team at Stan House .

We will be celebrating the passion, dedication, and personality they bring to their roles and who they are both at One Step Care and in their personal lives!

Jennie McGranaghan — Registered Home Manager, Stan House

Jennie leads Stan House with passion, creativity, and a deep belief in the importance of valuing both staff and young people.

“It’s an amazing company whose priorities are right — valuing and respecting staff and young people alike. I am proud to be part of the One Step Care family.”

Outside of Work…

Jennie enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, listening to music, and — occasionally — jumping off waterfalls! ��

Her guilty pleasures?

�� Marzipan in any form (fruits, bars, slabs — all welcome!)
�� And of course… watching Eastenders while eating it.

“If I had to choose one thing that I love most, it would be being blessed with the opportunity to be part of our young peoples’ and staffs’ journeys.”

For Jennie, seeing individuals grow and thrive is what makes her role exceptionally rewarding.

Sean Renwick — Deputy Manager, Stan House

Sean has been part of the One Step Care team for two years and describes his journey as one of growth, support, and opportunity.

Starting his career as an RCO, Sean progressed into the Deputy Manager position in under a year — something he credits to the continuous guidance and encouragement he has received from colleagues and management.

“I feel like a truly valued member of the team… the support I’ve received has been invaluable, helping me to grow both professionally and personally.”

In his role, Sean enjoys the balance between working directly with young people and supporting the day-to-day running of the home. Building strong relationships, being a role model, and helping to create a safe and supportive environment are at the heart of what he does.

“Seeing the young people grow and knowing I play a part in their journey is incredibly rewarding.”

Outside of Work…

When Sean isn’t at Stan House, he’s a keen traveller who loves exploring different cultures. He’s also very social — whether it’s concerts, spending time with friends, or making the most of life.

And like all of us, Sean has his comfort-zone guilty pleasure:

�� Curling up on the sofa with a takeaway and watching the soaps — Emmerdale, Corrie and Eastenders — alongside his partner and dog.

At One Step Care, every home is supported by a dedicated leadership team who bring passion, experience, and heart to everything they do. We’re excited to introduce you to two of the brilliant leaders at Park View — Kirsty and Peter — and give you a glimpse into what life is like working with OSC.

Kirsty Young - Registered Home Manager, Park View

Kirsty describes working for One Step Care as a “delight,” sharing that it’s refreshing to be part of a company that “ values the staff as much as the young people .”

That supportive culture is something she feels strongly about and reflects in her own leadership style at Park View.

One of the aspects she enjoys most about her role is being able to support and guide newer staff entering this line of work. She takes pride in helping them develop professionally so they are best equipped to support the young people in their care, encouraging growth not just for the children, but for her team as well.

Outside of work...

Kirsty enjoys spending quality time with her daughter, whether that’s heading out for walks or finding “little adventures” at the weekends ��✨. When it’s time to switch off, her guilty pleasure is settling in for Grey’s Anatomy and embracing a well-earned Pyjama Sunday ��.

Peter Monaghan — Deputy Manager, Park View

Peter has been with One Step Care for just over seven months and says he’s “really enjoying” his role at Park View. He speaks warmly about his colleagues, describing them as “great — if not a little crazy,” and values that they all share the same goals and values when it comes to supporting young people.

For Peter, the most rewarding part of his role is being able to make a genuine difference in the lives of the children in their care. He finds it incredibly meaningful to offer support and encouragement, helping them have “the best childhood possible” and ensuring they always know they are cared for.

Outside of work...

Peter enjoys socialising with his wife, going out for meals and travelling — whether that’s exploring the UK or heading abroad, particularly to the Greek islands ✈️��. And when it comes to guilty pleasures, he admits to biting the ends off a KitKat and using it as a straw with a cuppa ��☕ — a habit he stands by!

A Strong Start, Recognised by Ofsted

We are proud to share that one of our OSC homes, Park View, which opened in July last year, has been rated Good by Ofsted following its first inspection.

For a new home, this rating is a significant milestone. It reflects not only the quality of care being delivered day to day, but also the strong foundations that were put in place from the very beginning — foundations rooted in care, consistency, and a clear vision for positive outcomes.

More Than a Rating

At OSC, an Ofsted judgement is more than a regulatory outcome — it is an independent reflection of how well children are supported to feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.

Inspectors described the home as providing a “welcoming and warm environment”, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where children feel comfortable and supported. The report also recognised how children are encouraged to pursue their own interests, including dancing, musical theatre, boxing, and rugby. One child even cares for their own pet gerbils, complete with a care plan — a small but meaningful example of how routines are normalised in a child-centred and engaging way.

Dedicated Teams Making a Difference

The inspection feedback strongly reflected the dedication of our staff. One professional shared that they “can’t put into words how amazing they have been”, adding that they had “never known a home like it” and that staff “go above and beyond”.

Inspectors also noted that staff enjoy working at the home, feel confident in their managers, and feel valued and able to be themselves. This positive culture is essential — when teams feel supported, children benefit from stable and nurturing care.

Looking Ahead

The report highlighted that admissions are very carefully considered to ensure the home can meet the needs of all children, alongside recognition of leaders and managers having an ambitious vision for the home.

This Good Ofsted rating is something we are proud of, and it provides a strong platform for continued learning, development, and growth. As OSC moves forward, we remain focused on raising standards, strengthening our practice, and creating homes where children can build positive futures.

Celebrating Christmas at One Step Care: A Season of Joy, Togetherness and Care

Christmas at One Step Care is about more than decorations and festive jumpers — it’s about creating moments of joy, connection, and belonging across our homes and teams. This year, the festive season brought smiles, laughter, and togetherness across Park View, Stan House, and our Head Office, as well as a few fun surprises along the way.

Here’s a look at how we celebrated Christmas together.

Elf on the Shelf: Bringing Festive Fun to Our Homes

Our Elf on the Shelf brought plenty of laughter and festive mischief this Christmas, with a new surprise waiting each day. From being found “behind bars” in the oven , complete with an oven tray barricade, to cheekily pouring cereal into shoes because it “couldn't find any bowls!,” the elf certainly kept everyone guessing.

These light-hearted moments sparked shared laughter, conversation, and creativity, reminding us that it’s often the small, silly surprises that create the biggest smiles and bring everyone together.

Managers’ Christmas Meal at Miller & Carter

As part of our Christmas celebrations, our management team enjoyed a well-deserved festive meal at Miller & Carter . This was a valuable opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and reflect on the year’s achievements, challenges, and successes.

The evening was a chance to recognise the dedication and commitment of our leadership team, celebrate teamwork, and strengthen connections as we look ahead to the year to come.

Safeclicks Uk Initiative

Safeclicks UK have been encouraging their local community to come together and spread joy by organising gifts for children in care. Their team approached One Step Care simply to ensure these gifts reach young people who may benefit the most.

We’re grateful to Safeclicks UK for choosing to support young people at One Step Care.

Festive Decorations Across Our Homes & Office

Stan House , Park View , and our Head Office were transformed with beautiful Christmas decorations, creating warm and welcoming spaces for residents, staff, families, and visitors.
From decorated trees to thoughtful festive touches, each location reflected the care and creativity of our teams.

Supporting Local Christmas Appeals

Giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do. This year, One Step Care proudly supported two local Christmas appeals:

Mission Christmas – Cash for Kids , with toy donations to help ensure children wake up to something special on Christmas morning.
LD: North East Christmas Chocolate Appeal , donating chocolates to help bring festive joy to local families.

Christmas Celebrations all around

We loved celebrating the festive season across Stan House and Park View , with Christmas jumpers, festive costumes, party games, great food, and lots of smiles.

A huge thank you to our dedicated teams for creating such a warm and joyful atmosphere, and for continuing to make a positive difference every day.

What One Step Care have been up to this year

Here’s a glimpse at everything we’ve been doing with our young people this year…

It’s been an exciting year for our young people so far!

One of the highlights was an adventure retreat in Wales, where they had the chance to explore the outdoors, challenge themselves with new activities, and enjoy some much-needed time to unwind and reconnect.

The young people were able to take part in:

Kayaking
Zip - lining
Horse Riding
Adventure walks
Bike Riding

and so much more!

We also said goodbye to a couple of our young people who took their next step to independence

This year, two of our young people took an important step forward as they moved into their own homes and began their journey into adulthood.

To help them feel supported and prepared, we put together home essentials, thoughtful personalised gifts, and a meaningful send-off they’ll always remember.

Our support doesn’t end when they move on. We continue to ensure they have access to the same opportunities as any young person starting out on their own.

We also had some great Halloween fun at One Step Care

This year, One Step Care had a full spooktacular makeover!

Our staff joined in the fun with the young people, dressing up as everything from witches to Disney villains and really bringing the Halloween spirit to life.

Everyone enjoyed an afternoon of pumpkin carving, delicious treats, and plenty of party games!
